On 28 February 2024, Charge d’Affaires a.i. Dr Jean-Pierre Verbiest attended a commemorative event about the war in Ukraine organized by the Embassy of Ukraine, the Delegation of the European Union to Thailand and the Embassy of Belgium at the Goethe-Institute in Bangkok. The movie “Culture and War” by Ukrainian artist Akhtem Seitablaiev was screened, followed by a panel discussion on “Ukrainian Resilience: A Commemoration of Two Years of Struggle and Strength”. Many Ambassadors and Head of Diplomatic Missions attended as well as former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, Dr Kantathi Suphamongkhon. A key message from the panel discussion was that although Ukraine is far away from Thailand, the war in Ukraine has had significant direct and indirect impact on Thailand, its people and its economy.
