On 5 June, Charge d’Affaires a.i. Wolfgang Bertelsmeier attended a Mass celebrated in the Assumption Cathedral of Bangkok in honor of the new Pope Leo XIV. The Mass was attended by the Diplomatic Corps and representatives of other religions including Buddhist, Islam, Hindu and Protestant faiths. Nine members of the Order of Malta Thailand also attended. As the Papal Nuncio mentioned, Leo has a special significance in the Thai history as Pope Leo XIII was the first Pope to meet a Thai King, HM Rama V.
