From 19-21 February, Charge d’Affaires a.i. Dr Jean-Pierre A. Verbiest joined a study tour organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Southern Thailand province of Surat Thani. Apart from visiting some scenic sites such as the famous reservoir of the Rajjaprabha dam, much of the tour focused on the unique Southern Thailand culture and on sustainable fashion and Thai fabrics produced by different local communities under the project “Fun with Thai Fabrics” initiated by Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya. HRH Princess Sirivannavari hosted a luncheon for the Heads of Diplomatic Missions and spouses,and asked them next to join her in visiting the exhibition of Thai textiles and fabrics products held at the same venue. Participants were given the opportunity to engage in and observe Her Royal Highness’working session during the whole afternoon.
The Prime Minister of Thailand and the Minister of Commerce participated in all the activities on the second day of the Tour. Remarkably, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs joined the whole duration of the tour.
