Deputy Permanent Observer at the UNESCAP, Dr Jean-Pierre Verbiest, attended the second Asia-Pacific Regional Review of the Implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration on 4-6 February 2025.

The objective of the review was to take stock of progress made in the Asia-Pacific region with regard to the 360-degree implementation of the 23 objectives of the Global Compact for Migration since the first review. With many countries in the region facing rapidly aging populations, workers migration has increased rapidly.

Training, skills development, integration issues, migrants protection, safe work conditions and standards were extensively discussed by the country delegations. Most migrant workers in the region originate in the region.
